We'll discuss Takoma Metro site development at our next OTRA meeting, Sept 28. What's motivating this of course is the October 11 WMATA hearing on "Proposed Relocation of Bus Facilities and Parking Changes at Takoma Station." See http://wmata.com/about/community/default.cfm#hearings?fromMenu=Outreach.5 and read the meeting notice in particular. It's at http://wmata.com/about/community/Takoma_0806/01-NoticeFinal.pdf . I've talked to a few people about the hearing. I'd summarize what we as a neighborhood association can do as -- - Refine our position to respond to how the process has played out while strongly reiterating our opposition to current development plans. - Get people to attend and speak at the hearing. - Get people to submit a written statement whether or not they speak. I'd see doing this by -- 1) Delivering a notice door-to-door about the hearing **with a letter that people can send in to request to speak** where all they'll have to do is fill in a name & address and send in the letter. 2) Drafting a brief position statement that people can use themselves. We'd deliver this with the notice. 3) Identifying people in the neighborhood who attended the March WMATA design meeting and call those people. 4) Using PEN-list and direct e-mail to reach people. Because of the timing, I think we should do (1) & (2) -- distribute material along with an OTRA meeting notice -- over the weekend. I'm happy to draft the material myself but I'd also be happy to turn over the job to someone else who can do it over the next couple of days. Comments? Suggestions? Thanks, Seth
